Periodically, I have a need to leave my desktop computer Krista switched on for a long time. When she render animated 3D scenes or download something big from internet. In this case, I’m just turning off the monitors and go to ride a bicycle. And to make it clear to my families that Krista is working and not allowed to touch it, I did a little flicker-bot. This is a small semaphore on a monitor, is powered by usb-port and discourages casual passers-by. I remembered the youth and the first lessons in a pioneer electrotechnical club, found the necessary electric parts, tools and scheme of astable multivibrator. Don’t worry, it’s only a simple circuit with two transistors wiring, not what you think.
…aaaand, meet the Flickerbot!!!
So, what I needed to create it?
As a basis for the wiring I took an old plastic internet-card from dial-up era:
Also need a soldering iron, rosin and solder:
…and glue gun:
…and some other simple instruments:
Cheap сhinese tester very helpful,
but we can cope without it:
Of course we also need radio components.

Also you will need unnecessary usb data cable:
Everything is simple — punch holes in plastic card,
insert the radio components and assemble circuit, voila:
Use glue gun to attach some details like variable resistors,
tumbler switch and usb plug.

Here is electrical scheme, I replaced a pair of static resistors with variable resistance, they began bot ears. You can also experiment with values, there are many schemes with values calculations in web.
